How we talked to children about tech and art!
On Saturday 14th August Identity 2.0 took over LCB Depot’s monthly Family Day and bought the young people of Leicester a creative tech day.
We hosted three activities:
A Jam Sandwich Algorithm demonstration
A favourite of ours, this is a simple way to show how easy it is for a computer to misinterpret your instructions. With all the ingredients for a jam sandwich laid out in front of you, simply ask the children to tell you how to make a jam sandwich. The catch is you will take those instructions very literal, leading to some very funny situations. This opens up a conversation about how important precision and accuracy is important when programming a computer.
Sci Fi Stop Frame Animation
Setting up tablets loaded up with a free stop motion studio app and chunks of plasticine, we guided families through how to make their own stop frame animation movie! Telling new stories about technology is key to helping us shape a different future.
Recycled Robot Making
Using recycled materials we challenged children to make a robot to help the world. Inventions ranged from food makers to homework helpers.
Throughout the day we worked with nearly 50 families to help them explore technology, creatively!
If you want us to run events for your educational spaces, then let us know! We are all about making accessible spaces for all ages.
